This book examines African initiatives in introducing a new theology of spiritual healing in mainline churches in relation to traditional religious ideas in Zimbabwe. It compares the healing practices of a Traditional Religion, a Catholic, an Anglican and an African Independent Church in Zimbabwe. Similarities and differences in approach between these religious grops, in their interpretation of the causes of disease and healing, are identified. The book contends that mainline church healing, in conformity with the biblical imperative to heal the sick, relates to but also differs significantly from traditional Shona-Kranga or independent church healing systems. The mainline churches retain their orthodox Christian orientation but are inspired by charismatic healing praxis. Apparently, mainline churches have established a new paradigm of healing in Zimbabwe.
