STUDIA ANTHROPONYMICA SCANDINAVICA is intended as a scholarly forum for contributions in the various fields of research on personal names, including etymology, phonology, semantics, history, sociology and stylistics. It aims to contribute to a discussion of methodology and terminology, as well as to emphasize the affinities between personal names research and other branches of the humanities, such as demography, ethnology, genealogy, history, literature, psychology and religion.

STUDIA ANTHROPONYMICA SCANDINAVICA has a clear Nordic emphasis. It endeavours to examine personal names in all the Nordic countries and, in addition, the dissemination and destinies of Nordic personal names outside the Nordic region, both in the past and in modern times. The journal's Nordic approach is such that it not only takes into account the Scandinavian languages, but also considers personal names in the other native languages of the Nordic countries, Finnish and Sami.
